It seems like Amar Ayyar remained 'Amar' in India :-) In Pakistan, it changed to 'Umro' thanks to some ancient mistake in Urdu spelling by some genius (and the need to equate every name to something you know, hence making Amar, Umro so it sounds like a mispronunciation of Umar). In either case, it helped a lot of children point out Benares on a map.
